Chapter 26 Jiang's Father is Critically Ill!
Chapter 26 Jiang's Father is Critically Ill!
The first scene they're filming today is a scene where Chu Yu's personal maid, Qing He, stays by her side and accompanies her as she wanders the streets after her family's property is confiscated.
Even when she was working as Lin Weiwei's stand-in, Jiang Xinlan had already thought about the plot and character design many times and studied the role extensively.
In order to audition, he studied the script over and over again, and almost memorized it.
As soon as filming began, Jiang Xinlan instantly got into character.
Wearing a moon-white long dress, with cool and aloof eyes and an outstanding temperament, she stood there and was the epitome of Chu Yu, who was both scholarly and martial, proud and resilient. Even the director couldn't help but be impressed and praised her repeatedly.
Lin Wan quickly adjusted her emotions and got into character, perfectly portraying Qinghe's loyalty, heartache, and helplessness. Her scenes with Jiang Xinlan were seamless.
The scene was filmed in one take.
The director excitedly yelled "Cut!" and applauded repeatedly.
"Great! Excellent! Teacher Jiang and Lin Wan acted superbly! Their emotions were perfectly conveyed! That take is a wrap!"
Lin Wan's eyes lit up instantly when she heard the director's praise. She looked at Jiang Xinlan excitedly and gave her a thumbs-up.
Jiang Xinlan smiled back at her, feeling happy for her too.
During the break, Lin Wan brought over two glasses of warm water, handed one to Jiang Xinlan, and said excitedly:
"Teacher Jiang! The director just praised me! This is the first time I've gotten a perfect shot in one take since joining the crew! Thank you so much! If it weren't for your help this morning, I definitely wouldn't have been able to get into the right emotional state!"
"It's because you acted well, it has nothing to do with me," Jiang Xinlan said with a smile as she took the water glass.
For the next three days, Jiang Xinlan and Lin Wan worked together more and more seamlessly, and they were able to get each scene right in one take.
Unexpectedly, just as Jiang Xinlan finished filming a major scene and was about to rest, her phone suddenly started ringing incessantly. It was Su Hui calling.
As soon as the call connected, Su Hui's voice, choked with sobs, came through: "Xinlan! Come back quickly! Your father is dying! The doctor has issued a critical condition notice!"
Jiang Xinlan's water glass fell to the ground with a "clatter," spilling hot water all over the floor, but she was completely unaware, her blood instantly turning cold.
"Mom? What did you say? What happened to Dad?!"
Jiang Xinlan's voice trembled uncontrollably, and she gripped her phone so tightly that her knuckles turned white.
"Your dad suddenly suffered cardiac arrest and has been resuscitated twice. The doctor said all his organs have failed and we need to prepare for the worst... Xinlan, please come back quickly, or you won't be able to see your dad one last time..."
Su Hui was crying her heart out on the other end of the phone, and she couldn't even speak properly.
"I'm coming right away! Mom, don't panic! I'll be there soon!"
Jiang Xinlan hung up the phone, her whole body trembling, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably.
Her father had been lying in bed for six years, and although he had been in a vegetative state, his vital signs had always been stable. How could he suddenly become critically ill?!
"Teacher Jiang, what's wrong?" Lin Wan saw that her face was pale and she was trembling all over, so she quickly ran over to support her with a worried look on her face.
"My dad is critically ill, I have to go back to the hospital immediately." Jiang Xinlan's voice was choked with tears, and she could barely stand. "I have to ask the director for leave..."
"Don't panic, I'll go with you!" Lin Wan immediately helped her up and quickly walked towards the director's monitor.
When the director heard about the situation, he immediately granted her leave and even had the crew's driver take her to the hospital.
"Teacher Jiang, don't worry. Be careful on the road. Don't worry about the crew. We'll film other scenes first. You can come back whenever you've taken care of things at home."
"Thank you, director." Jiang Xinlan said, her voice choked with emotion, and then turned and ran out of the film set.
As soon as she ran out of the filming location, she saw a familiar black minivan parked at the entrance, with Shen Yu leaning against it waiting for her.
Upon hearing the news, he came to the film set immediately, fearing that she might panic and something might happen.
"Shen Yu..." Jiang Xinlan saw him, and all the emotions she had been holding back instantly broke down. She cried and threw herself into his arms.
"My dad... my dad is dying... the doctor told us to prepare for the worst..."
Shen Yu immediately reached out and hugged her, gently patting her back, his tone tender yet filled with unwavering certainty:
"Don't be afraid, Xinlan, I'm here. Uncle will be alright. I'll go to the hospital with you, and I'll definitely save him."
He had long ago sensed with his spiritual power that Jiang Jianping's life force was rapidly dissipating. It wasn't just ordinary organ failure; after lying in bed for six years, most of his three souls and seven spirits had left his body, leaving only a wisp of his life soul tied to it.
Western medicine's instruments cannot detect it at all; they can only see organ failure, so naturally they are helpless.
"Really?" Jiang Xinlan looked up at him, her eyes red from crying, her hopes shattered.
"Shen Yu, you can really save my dad, right?"
"I promise." Shen Yu wiped away her tears and opened the car door for her. "We'll go to the hospital right now, trust me."
Jiang Xinlan nodded vigorously and got into the car.
The car sped along, running several red lights. What usually takes an hour took only twenty minutes to reach the First Municipal Hospital.
Jiang Xinlan and Shen Yu rushed into the ICU ward of the inpatient department. Su Hui was slumped in a chair, crying so hard that her body went limp. When she saw them coming, she immediately stood up, grabbed Jiang Xinlan's hand, and sobbed uncontrollably.
"Xinlan, you're finally back! The doctor just issued another critical condition notice, saying we...we can see you one last time..."
The ICU door opened, and Dr. Li, the attending physician, came out with several nurses. He took off his mask, shook his head at them, and looked exhausted.
"Ms. Jiang, Ms. Su, I'm sorry, we've done everything we can. The patient's heart rate and blood pressure are still unstable, and he/she is experiencing multiple organ failure. We really can't do anything more. Please go in and say goodbye to the patient."
"Impossible!" Jiang Xinlan shook her head, her tears falling even harder.
"Director Li, please, please save him again! I'm begging you!"
"Ms. Jiang, we have really tried everything we could." Director Li said, his face full of helplessness.
"The patient had been bedridden for six years, and his health had long since deteriorated. This sudden deterioration was something we were powerless to reverse."
Just then, Shen Yu stepped forward and supported Jiang Xinlan, who was about to lose her balance. He looked at Director Li, his tone calm but firm:
"Director Li, the patient is still alive, so it's not beyond saving. Let me go in and try; I can save him."
Everyone present was stunned by these words.
Director Li looked Shen Yu up and down, frowning with a face full of doubt:
"Who are you? Do you even know anything about medicine? Do you know what it's like in the ICU? The patient is critically ill. Are you trying to kill him by going in and causing trouble?"
Several doctors nearby echoed this sentiment, expressing their strong dissatisfaction:
"Where did this young man come from? This is utter nonsense! Even we professional doctors are helpless, and you think you can save him?"
"Exactly! Young people these days are so unreliable, they dare to talk nonsense about things like this!"
"Director Li, ignore him, quickly let the family members go in to say goodbye, or it will be too late!"
