Chapter 388: The Seed is Planted!
Chapter 388: The Seed is Planted!
Chapter 40: The Seed is Planted!
The Savior of the Human Order, currently consumed by rage, had no recourse other than a feeling of helpless indignation.
Although he had cleared Singularity after Singularity, he had never truly overcome any of them by relying solely on his own strength. His title as the savior of the world was, in a sense, more akin to being a diplomat or a lubricant for the gears of fate.
Fujimaru Ritsuka’s greatest contribution was his ability to forge bonds with an ever-increasing number of Heroic Spirits, gathering those Servants together to manifest the strength of a miracle. This was proven perfectly during the final battle at the Temple of Time. Countless Heroic Spirits who had once shared a connection with Fujimaru Ritsuka arrived on that final battlefield based on nothing more than a faint "bond." They manifested themselves and performed their own summoning, using Fujimaru Ritsuka as their anchor.
To fight while maintaining one’s own summoning is a serious ordeal for any Heroic Spirit. And the greatest hero of them all, Fujimaru Ritsuka, demonstrated his title clearly because they all came for his sake. Yet, on the flip side, in every Singularity and every world, he was always relying on others. This is what one might call a "protagonist"—a group of existences favored by the world.
"Mash Kyrielight..."
"Yes? Is something the matter?"
"Think about it carefully. For the ’you’ of right now, this transaction with me is not a losing deal. I am no ordinary human. Accompanying me for a few days will bring you benefits. I won’t dare promise too much, but making you a normal human is well within the realm of possibility."
"A normal human?"
"That’s right. A normal human. Having a lifespan like any other person—theoretically, a full hundred years."
These words pierced straight through Mash’s heart. Was she afraid of death? It would be a lie to say she wasn’t. After all, she was still just a child at heart, especially after experiencing so many beautiful things; naturally, she became even more reluctant to let go. Most importantly, she wanted to be with the person she cherished forever.
Fujimaru Ritsuka glared at Akira, the anger in his eyes nearly overflowing. If Mash hadn’t been holding him back, he might have already charged forward recklessly.
Back at Chaldea, Romani—who was listening to Akira’s words—fell silent for a moment. As Mash’s doctor, he knew her condition better than anyone. Years ago, if that Heroic Spirit hadn’t chosen to help her, she would have died long ago. But even so, wielding the power of a Heroic Spirit with a human body—especially as a Homunculus—meant that every ounce of power she used and every effort she made was paid for by burning away her own life.
As the former King Solomon, Romani knew all too well that this world was far too cruel to this girl. But if what Akira said was true—that she only needed to accompany him for a few days to gain a new life and provide them with information—then it was absolutely worth it.
However, such a thing was only worth it in theory. In reality, it was impossible. Regardless of anything else, the bond between Mash and Fujimaru Ritsuka ensured that this path was an absolute dead end.
Swooosh—
Akira pointed toward Mash, and a streak of black light instantly merged into her forehead.
"You bastard! What did you do to her?!"
Seeing this, Fujimaru Ritsuka’s temper finally exploded, and he immediately began to curse at Akira. This reaction displeased Akira; the boy’s own power was negligible, yet his temper was massive.
If you were actually her boyfriend, I wouldn’t say a word, but you aren’t. From start to finish, you’ve never expressed your feelings, taking everything for granted. In a sense, that is its own form of arrogance.
Slap—
It wasn’t Akira who acted, but Kingu standing beside him.
As the one who had given Kingu a new lease on life, Kingu’s respect for Akira was profound. Now that a mere human dared to insult him, Kingu naturally couldn’t stay silent.
"Final Master of Humanity, this is the first and last time. If you do that again, I will kill you."
A cold, piercing killing intent instantly enveloped Fujimaru Ritsuka. He felt it—he was going to die. The opponent wasn’t joking; he would definitely die.
Akira also looked at Fujimaru Ritsuka with a touch of interest. It was true then—despite being called the savior of the world, he was still an immature child.
"Mash Kyrielight, that is a small trace of my magical energy. If you ever make your choice, you can find me at any time. With the help of my power, you can come to my side whenever you wish. However, this opportunity exists only once."
It was the power of darkness born from the fusion of Shadow and Mud—a form of teleportation magecraft.
"Please take it back. I will absolutely never use it."
Glancing at Fujimaru Ritsuka, Mash rejected the offer without hesitation. She certainly wanted to keep living, but she valued her feelings more. Fujimaru Ritsuka was the only thing she truly cared about. She would not sacrifice her mental pillar just to survive.
"It doesn’t matter if you reject it now. A person with a wide path for retreat will always look very noble. But when you no longer have a way out—when you are on the brink of despair and at your wit’s end—this will become the key to your hope."
"That will absolutely never happen. Senpai and I will save the Human Order."
"Is that so? Then I shall look forward to it."
With a faint smile directed at Mash, Akira slowly rose into the air.
As Akira had said: "A person with a wide path for retreat will always look very noble." However, this world couldn’t be compared to other Singularities. It must be understood that this Singularity was the only world untouched by the Demon God Pillars. The reason was simple: Tiamat was here—a Beast on the same level as Goetia. The Demon God Pillars wouldn’t dare interfere recklessly; if they did, they wouldn’t even know how they died.
But now, this world was no longer the world of its original destiny.
Tiamat had become Akira’s Mother. Quetzalcoatl and Kingu had become his followers. Even Ishtar now acted like a mouse meeting a cat whenever she encountered him. In all of Mesopotamia, the trajectory of fate had drifted significantly off course.
Could this chosen savior still achieve a miracle under the protection of fate and repeated coincidences in conditions like these? Akira didn’t know the answer, but the future would tell.
"Mash... am I really that useless? I don’t have a shred of strength. In a situation like this, I have no choice but to be helpless."
As soon as Akira left, Fujimaru Ritsuka slumped weakly to the ground. For the first time, he felt how truly weak he was. When facing a real threat, he was utterly powerless.
"It’s okay, Senpai. Everything will pass, and you are very strong."
"Mash... you won’t leave, will you?"
"Of course not. I won’t go anywhere."
Even though the two of them seemed the same as before, with sincere feelings between them, the seed of doubt had been planted. Human emotions are strange things; when they are strong, they can pierce through anything—even death cannot shake them. But in many cases, feelings are also incredibly fragile. It only takes a single sentence or a small action to make a heart crack.
