Chapter 315 Only the East Wind Is Lacking
Chapter 315 Only the East Wind Is Lacking
When Xiao Yunqing sent the message, Song Huan was lying in bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Last night, after I got back from the studio and took a shower, it was almost midnight. I lay in bed tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep, my mind filled with the demo's interface.
Later, I drifted off to sleep, and even in my dream, I was still coding.
His phone vibrated, waking him up.
He pulled it out from under his pillow; the screen was lit up with QQ messages.
"Cheerful Little Cloud: Great news!!!"
Three exclamation marks.
He rubbed his eyes and started typing.
Song Xiaoshuai: What's the good news?
"Cheerful Little Cloud: The University of Tokyo's School of Business has agreed!"
Song Huan sat up abruptly from the bed.
Her hair was sticking up and her eyes were still a little swollen, but she was already awake.
"Cheerful Little Cloud: Professor Ye mentioned this project at the college's teaching meeting yesterday. The dean immediately approved it, saying that the cross-university collaboration model was excellent and aligned with the direction of innovation and entrepreneurship research. He appointed Professor Ye as the mentor and me as the student leader of the project."
Song Huan looked at the few lines of text on the screen, her heart pounding with excitement.
He didn't care who Ye Lin was; as long as the project was approved, that was all that mattered.
Song Xiaoshuai: Wow, Manager Xiao, you're amazing!
"The cheerful little cloud: That's it."
It was followed by a smug expression.
A rabbit, chin raised, nostrils pointing upwards.
"Cheerful Little Cloud: How's it going on your end? Did Nanjing University approve it?"
Song Huan thought for a moment and then typed.
"That's about it. I'll go talk to someone from the business school today."
"Business school? Aren't you in the engineering school?"
"Well, it's a long story, and I guess I'm taking a roundabout approach to achieve my goal."
"Cheerful Little Cloud: Then prepare well. How are the people from your business school?"
Song Xiaoshuai: I don't know, we'll see when we get there.
"Cheerful Little Cloud: Can't you do more homework?"
Song Xiaoshuai: My way of doing my homework is to just go and see what happens.
The haircut showed an angry expression, and Song Huan smiled.
"Cheerful Little Cloud: By the way, did you finish your demo?"
"Song Xiaoshuai: I just finished it last night."
"Cheerful Little Cloud: Really?! Let me see!"
"Song Xiaoshuai: I'll show you when we meet."
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end.
"Cheerful Little Cloud: When will we meet?"
Song Huan looked at the line of text.
Even through the screen, he could imagine what she looked like now.
Sitting on my dorm bed, holding my phone, my finger hovering over the screen, waiting for his reply, the tips of my ears turning red.
"Song Xiaoshuai: Once both projects are approved, I'll come to Southeast University to find you."
"Cheerful Little Cloud: Okay."
There is only one word.
But he stared at that word for several seconds.
"Cheerful little cloud: I'll wait for you."
He stared at those four words for a long while.
Then I turned off my phone screen and sighed inwardly.
The more Xiao Yunqing did for him and the more she gave, the more indescribable feelings he felt.
Forget it...
He lay down for a while, then sat up, got dressed, and washed up.
After packing my things, I put the USB drive in my pocket and turned on my computer to check the demo again.
No problem confirmed.
I pushed open the door and walked out of the dormitory.
All is ready except for the opportunity.
Wang Jianye's office is on the third floor of the Business School's administration building.
Song Huan stood at the door and took a deep breath.
The door wasn't closed properly; there was a crack.
Voices could be heard coming from inside.
He knocked on the door.
"Come in."
He pushed open the door.
There were two people sitting in the office.
A man in his early fifties, slightly overweight, with neatly combed hair, wearing a dark blue jacket, and a friendly smile on his face.
Wang Jianye, Vice Dean of the Business School.
The other man was in his forties, tall and thin, wearing silver-rimmed glasses and a gray shirt with the cuffs buttoned up meticulously.
On the coffee table in front of him was a document with the words "University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Center" printed on the cover.
Song Huan caught a glimpse of it out of the corner of her eye.
My heart skipped a beat; I hadn't expected such an unexpected bonus.
Song Huan remembered this person, Director Li of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Center, who was in charge of approving entrepreneurial projects and allocating resources across the university.
The two of them turned to look at him at the same time.
Song Huan went inside and placed the USB drive on the coffee table.
He bowed slightly. "Dean Wang, Director Li, I'm Song Huan, a freshman in the Computer Science Department. President Chen Xiuyuan asked me to come see you. He said I have a project and would appreciate your guidance."
Wang Jianye leaned back on the sofa and nodded.
"Principal Chen told me about the inter-university collaboration with Southeast University. Did you bring the project proposal with you?"
Song Huan plugged the USB drive into the laptop on the coffee table and opened the solution.
The cover page popped up on the screen.
Joint Innovation and Entrepreneurship Practice Project between Nanjiang University and Donghai University: Smart Food Delivery Platform in University Town.
He didn't read the plan aloud.
He knew that Wang Jianye was the vice dean of the business school and was far more interested in business models and operational structures than in technical details.
He started directly with the operational structure, including the merchant onboarding model, commission rules, user subsidy strategies, and the incentive system for the delivery team.
He would pause after explaining each module and look at Wang Jianye.
Wang Jianye leaned back on the sofa, tapping his fingers lightly on his knees, listening intently.
After Song Huan finished explaining the merchant onboarding process, he asked, "How did you determine this commission rate?"
This is exactly what Song Huan was waiting for.
"Currently, the percentage is set at 15% to 20%, which will fluctuate based on the order volume of merchants. However, this percentage is just my own estimate and is not supported by data."
He looked at Wang Jianye and said, "Dean Wang, if this project can be implemented, all the order data, user behavior data, and merchant operation data will be made available to you for research. Data models, consumer behavior analysis, and delivery time optimization—the papers written from this data will be easy to publish in core journals."
Wang Jianye's fingers paused for a moment.
Song Huan continued.
"Once the project is successful, it can be designated as a university-enterprise cooperation practice base of Nanjing University Business School. Students' participation in operations, on-the-ground promotion, and business negotiations will all be counted as practical training credits. If any of your students want to conduct research, all data will be open, and your research group can be listed as author."
Wang Jianye leaned back on the sofa and started tapping his fingers again. He tapped three times, then turned his head and looked at the tall, thin man next to him.
"Old Li, what do you think?"
Director Li pushed up his glasses; he had been listening quietly the whole time without saying much.
He looked at Song Huan. "You just said that the project has already partnered with Southeast University?"
"Yes, the School of Business at Southeast University has approved it. Professor Ye Lin will be the mentor, and the student leader is a freshman girl from their department who is studying e-commerce."
Director Li raised his eyebrows slightly.
If Southeast University approves it, it won't look good if Nanjing University blocks it.
He looked at Song Huan and said, "Open the demo."
Song Huan opened the demo.
The interface, with its white background and blue text, is as rudimentary as a student's homework.
But he clicked the "Place Order" button on the user interface, and the order popped up.
Switch to the merchant side, and orders will be displayed synchronously.
Switching to the delivery side, the rider accepts the order, and the delivery status begins to update.
The three platforms are now connected!
Director Li stared at the fluctuating delivery progress bar on the screen for a long time.
Song Huan took a document out of her bag and placed it on the coffee table.
Proof of funds: three million.
Then I pulled out another joint entrepreneurship proposal from Nanjing University and Southeast University. It was a thick stack of proposals with the red seal of Southeast University's School of Business on the cover.
He placed the two documents side by side.
"Director Li." His tone changed.
This wasn't the same tone he used when speaking to Wang Jianye earlier, a tone that was more polite and assertive. It was a different tone altogether, more steady and certain.
"This project will definitely win the provincial-level Outstanding College Student Entrepreneurship Project award for the school. We can then find some local media to publish a few reports on it. The fact that Nanjing University students have created the first campus food delivery platform in Nanjiang will be enough to qualify for the school's annual assessment."
He paused for a moment.
The delivery progress bar on the screen was reflected in Director Li's glasses.
"I don't need the school to fund me. I already have three million yuan in start-up capital. I don't need much. I just need a plaque designating it as a key supported entrepreneurship project at the university level, a permit to distribute flyers, set up booths, and recruit part-time workers on campus, and no department is allowed to obstruct or make things difficult for me. Also, I need an office in the entrepreneurship incubation base."
He looked at Director Li and said, "Nanjiang doesn't have a campus food delivery platform like this yet. If we do it, Nanjing University will be the first to take the plunge. Other universities that want to learn from us will have to come to us for guidance. You are the guiding leader for this project."
The office fell silent.
The sycamore leaves outside the window rustled in the wind.
Wang Jianye picked up his teacup and took a sip.
Director Li looked at the two documents on the coffee table and at the simple but functional demo on the screen.
There was a long silence.
Then he reached out, picked up the joint venture proposal, and turned to the first page.
"I'll approve your key university-level startup project. The campus space, advertising, and recruitment will all be specially approved; no department is allowed to obstruct it. You can move into the startup incubation base office tomorrow."
He closed the document and looked at Song Huan. "But I have one condition: you must secure the provincial-level outstanding entrepreneurial project award. You also need to ensure the media coverage."
Song Huan looked at him and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"no problem."
Director Li nodded.
He took a business card out of his pocket, placed it on the coffee table, and pushed it towards him.
"If anything comes up, just contact me."
Song Huan picked up the business card.
The sign reads: "University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Center, Director: Li Guodong."
He put the business card in his pocket, stood up, and bent down slightly.
"Thank you, Director Li. Thank you, Dean Wang."
Wang Jianye leaned back on the sofa, holding a teacup in his hand.
"When are you going to need people for the operations team?"
Song Huan thought for a moment, "Next week."
Wang Jianye nodded.
"Okay, I'll assemble a team for you at the business school: operations, ground promotion, and business negotiation."
Song Huan bent down again.
Then he turned around and walked out of the office.
The fluorescent lights were on in the corridor, making the floor appear white.
He took a few steps and then stopped.
Leaning against the wall, clutching the business card in his hand.
Key entrepreneurial projects supported by the university.
The franchise rights within the campus, the office of the business incubation base, the business school's operations team, the technical support from the Department of Computer Science, and the joint endorsement from the Southeast University Business School are all involved.
The beginning is always the hardest, and I've finally made it through the most difficult step in starting a business!
