Chapter 188: Awakened
Chapter 188: Awakened
Chapter 188: Awakened
“Bad papa!” Mable scolded, jabbing a small accusing finger directly at Koya’s chest. “You don’t just go around biting people…”
Koya let out a long sigh, leaning back against the armrest of the living room couch.
‘How did these Vampires deal with this immense hunger?’ Koya thought, running a hand through his damp hair.
The biological system demand had hit his brain like a freight train.
When he got hungry, the primal urge entirely overrode his usual restraint. He didn’t think; he just immediately locked onto the sweet pulsing scent of blood and bit the nearest living person in his vicinity, which happened to be Nami.
“I’m sorry,” Koya said, rubbing the back of his neck where his own muscles felt tight.
Though, truthfully, after taking that long, euphoric drink from her jugular, he felt really refreshed.
The potent rush of her life essence coursing through his veins made him feel perhaps even stronger than before the grueling, night-long session with Tej.
‘Do I need to keep sucking more blood to maintain this peak state?’ Koya thought, clenching and unclenching his fists to test his returning strength. ‘I guess I’ll do it with Hakai later… Her blood probably tastes completely different.’
They were downstairs now, the morning sunlight filtering brightly through the large glass windows of the living room. Koya looked over toward the bottom of the grand wooden staircase.
Nami stood there with her pale cheeks reddening up furiously as she nervously put her hands behind her back, swaying slightly on her feet.
“I am sorry to you too.” Koya apologized to her directly, his glowing purple eyes softening. His genuine tone made her smile as the lingering blush deepened across her face.
“No worries,” Nami said softly. “I didn’t really mind at all. And… were we still going on our date?”
“Well yes,” Koya confirmed with a nod. “If you prepare, we can start leaving immedia—”
Before he could even finish the word, the blonde woman turned on her heel and ran back upstairs with incredible quickness, her bare feet padding rapidly against the steps.
Koya watched her disappear down the second-floor hallway and let out another quiet sigh.
After violently piercing her neck and sucking her blood, his heightened vampiric senses had registered something entirely new coursing through her veins.
He could confirm beyond a shadow of a doubt that she had awakened. The raw mana in her bloodstream tasted electric which was a sharp contrast to the normal mundane blood of a regular human that he assumed was without mana.
Though, he wasn’t exactly sure what specific kind of magic she had acquired because of the glaring fact that the traditional glowing crest didn’t show on her face.
‘But… how did she even awaken?’ Koya thought, his brow furrowing in genuine confusion.
The biological rules of this world were strict and universally known. If you didn’t awaken your crest by the time you turned eighteen, then it was completely over.
Your mana pathways solidified, and you remained a normal human for the rest of your life. So how did Nami bypass a fundamental law of nature?
‘I’ll ask her later,’ Koya finished the thought, pushing the mystery aside for now.
He turned his attention back to the little girl sitting comfortably on his lap. Mable tilted her head a bit, her large eyes blinking up at him curiously.
“Where are you going, Papa?” Mable asked, crossing her small arms.
“I’m taking Aunt Nami out for some breakfast,” Koya replied, tapping her lightly on the nose. Mable, of course, wanted to complain. Her little face scrunched up into a pout.
“Why can’t you just eat at home with me?” Mable asked, her lower lip trembling slightly to guilt-trip him.
“Because I promised her this date for a while now,” Koya explained calmly. “And besides, you have a very important job to do here.”
Mable immediately stopped pouting. She tilted her head to the other side with her tiny ahoge twitching.
“Important job?” Mable repeated, her voice rising with sudden interest.
She was a creature of immense pride. If it was a very important job, then she would dedicate herself to it and execute it to the absolute best of her abilities.
“Since we are going on a super secret mission later, we will need high-grade weapons,” Koya told her, leaning in close and lowering his voice to a conspiratorial whisper. “You need to arrange those weapons with Mama Hakai. Can you do that for me?”
Immediately, Mable’s bright eyes glittered with pure excitement.
“On it, Papa!” Mable saluted sharply.
With that, the little girl soared upward. Her small, leathery dragon wings popped out of her back with a soft rustle, and she hovered in the air for a brief second.
“Have fun on your breakfast, Papa!” Mable cheered before zipping away down the hallway, highly eager to find the woman and fulfill her crucial mission.
Koya eased back into the plush cushions of the couch, enjoying the brief moment of quiet. A second later, a pair of soft bare arms wrapped tightly around his neck from behind.
The person pressing flush against the back of the couch had incredibly pale cold skin, exactly like Tej. However, the distinct, highly generous weight pressing directly against the back of his head proved her breasts were significantly bigger than the Vampire Queen’s.
It was Victoria, or rather, Tori.
“Hubby~” Tori cooed softly, her warm breath tickling the shell of his ear as she hugged him from behind and smiled warmly. “Welcome back… Sorry I wasn’t able to welcome you properly yesterday. I—”
Victoria cut her own sentence short, biting the inside of her cheek.
She didn’t want to admit out loud that she had fallen for the oldest most pathetic trick in the book and got knocked out cold by her own older sister but if she didn’t offer some kind of excuse, it would look like she was ignoring him on purpose upon his return.
“I…” Tori started again, struggling to find the right words.
“It’s alright,” Koya said, cutting off her nervous rambling.
He reached his hand up and over his shoulder, his fingers gently finding her pale cheek. He stroked her cold skin with his thumb, making the beautiful Vampire blush a deep crimson.
“Uhm, Hubby,” Tori murmured, leaning into his touch. “Where is Big Sister?”
“Well…” Koya trailed off, a dark smirk touching his lips as the vivid memories of the brutal night flashed in his mind. “She’s not exactly in a state you want to see right now.”
Victoria bit her lower lip hard.
She knew exactly why her sister had put her to sleep with blood magic yesterday… It was so Tej could do it with Koya entirely uninterrupted. Even now, standing behind him, Tori could practically smell her sister’s distinct pheromones and the lingering scent of sex all over him.
‘I want to get pregnant first,’ Tori thought with a fierce wave of competitive jealousy spiking through her chest.
She cleared her throat a bit, determined to secure her own time with him.
“Hubby, I—”
Before Tori could make her bold request, the sound of footsteps echoed from the stairs. Nami came practically skipping downstairs in a pair of really good clothes.
She wore a slightly oversized, vintage graphic band shirt that hung casually off one shoulder, paired perfectly with skin-tight black athletic leggings that highlighted the curve of her hips and thighs.
She finished the casual, highly attractive look with a pair of clean white sneakers and her blond hair tied back into a loose, messy bun.
As Nami arrived at the bottom of the stairs, looking vibrant and ready for their date, Victoria lost her confidence entirely.
“What’s up?” Koya asked, turning his head slightly to look back at Tori.
“I… I will tell you later…” Tori stuttered, her cheeks burning bright red.
Without waiting for his reply, the busty vampire let go of his neck and ran off down the adjoining hallway in her sheer silk nightgown, retreating back to the safety of her room.
Koya chuckled softly at her frantic escape. He stood up from the couch and turned over to face Nami.
“You haven’t even wore anythi—” Nami started to point out, gesturing to his casual, slightly wrinkled indoor clothes.
Koya didn’t let her finish. He blurred past her with his vampiric speed kicking in. A rush of displaced air hit Nami’s face, making her blink. In less than two seconds, Koya appeared right back in his original spot.
He had seamlessly swapped into a completely new pair of good-looking clothes. He now wore a fitted, dark charcoal turtleneck that gripped his broad chest nicely, paired with tailored black slacks and polished dress shoes.
He stepped close to the blond-haired woman, bowing slightly at the waist as he extended his hand forward.
“Shall we, milady?” Koya asked.
Nami’s breath hitched then she smiled brightly, reaching out and placing her smaller hand firmly inside his larger one.
“We shall,” Nami agreed.
They left the sprawling mansion behind, stepping out into the bright, bustling streets of the Supercity.
The morning air was crisp and clear, a perfect day for a date. Koya guided her to one of the sleek black luxury car parked in the circular driveway. He opened the passenger door for her, closing it gently once she was settled, before sliding into the driver’s seat.
He could drive of course.
The powerful engine purred to life as Koya merged onto the main road, driving them toward the commercial district.
After a short comfortable drive filled with light music playing through the radio, they arrived at a highly popular, modern dessert cafe known for its decadent pastries.
Instead of parking and dealing with the massive indoor crowd, Koya pulled the car around the side of the building, entering a sleek drive-through lane similar to a McDonald’s setup but far more upscale.
They pulled up to the glowing digital menu board and the two-way speaker.
“Welcome to Sugar Rush, what can I get started for you today?” a cheerful automated voice buzzed through the speaker.
“Go crazy…” Koya told her, leaning back against the leather seat.
Nami didn’t need to be told twice. She unbuckled her seatbelt, leaning across the center console toward his open window with her arm brushing against his chest as she practically shouted her order into the microphone.
“I’ll take two slices of the double chocolate fudge cake, one large strawberry shortcake, a vanilla bean frappe with extra whip, and three scoops of mint chocolate chip ice cream!” Nami ordered rapidly, not missing a single beat.
Koya stared at her, his eyebrows raising in genuine amusement as he paid the attendant at the next window and accepted three heavy paper bags full of sugar.
“All of that cake and ice cream? No wonder you’re fat,” Koya teased her smoothly as he handed over the bags putting the car back into drive.
Nami gasped in mock offense, her blond hair bouncing as she fell back into her seat.
“I am not fat!” Nami protested, sticking her pink tongue out at him playfully.
She glanced down at her own body, adjusting the hem of her oversized shirt. “I’m just gaining weight in the right places.”
Koya let his eyes drag deliberately down from her chest, tracing the curve of her waist, and settling on her tight black leggings before looking back at the road.
“I can see that…” Koya agreed with a dark smirk, making her face erupt into a furious, flattered blush.
After that highly fun ordering scene, Koya parked the car near the entrance of the massive city park located just a few blocks away.
They walked side-by-side down the paved, winding trails with the tall oak trees providing perfect patches of shade against the midday sun.
They found a quiet, secluded wooden bench overlooking a large duck pond and sat down together.
Nami eagerly opened the paper bags, pulling out a plastic fork and diving straight into the double chocolate fudge cake.
She took a massive bite, her eyes fluttering shut in pure bliss as the rich sugar hit her system.
Nami ate happily for a few minutes with the comfortable silence stretching between them then she lowered her fork, wiping a small smudge of frosting from the corner of her lip.
“I have something to tell you, Koya-kun…” Nami said, her voice dropping to a softer volume as she looked down at her lap.
Koya leaned back against the wooden slats of the bench, draping one arm casually over the backrest behind her shoulders.
“Sure, go ahead,” Koya encouraged her.
Nami took a deep breath, her hands balling into small fists.
“I’ve awake—”
Before the final syllable could even leave her mouth, a deafening crackle of rogue lightning split the serene atmosphere in half.
The loud aggressive sound of tearing wind and sparking electricity echoed across the park. Koya’s head snapped to the right.
Just a hundred yards away, floating menacingly above the paved walkway, was a rogue awakened individual. The man was riding on top of a highly condensed, swirling mini-tornado as his eyes were glowing with chaotic blue mana.
“Die, corporate scum!” the rogue screamed at the top of his lungs.
He stabbed his hand forward in a violent, throwing motion. Instantly, a massive shockwave of pressurized air erupted from his palm. The force slammed directly into a row of parked cars lining the edge of the park.
The heavy metal vehicles shrieked as they were lifted off the ground, sent flying through the air like discarded toys.
Civilians began screaming in pure terror, dropping their bags and scattering in every direction to avoid the falling metal husks.
Koya’s purple eyes darkened. He was about to stand up, ready to blur across the grass and completely decapitate the annoying threat for interrupting his date.
However, Nami moved first.
She stood up from the bench, dropping her plastic fork. Nami raised her open palm toward the floating attacker and a surge of mana coiled rapidly around her slender arm, compressing the ambient air until it visibly distorted the light.
The mana rapidly became a dense, swirling vortex of razor-sharp wind.
With a flick of her wrist, Nami shot the projectile forward.
The wind bullet tore right through the air with a deafening sonic boom, leaving a visible trail of displaced oxygen in its wake.
It crossed the hundred-yard distance in a fraction of a second, completely bypassing the rogue’s swirling tornado defense.
THWACK!
The condensed wind hit the man squarely in the side of his head with pinpoint precision. The brutal impact immediately shut his brain off, making him lose consciousness before he even registered the pain.
His mini-tornado dissipated instantly into a harmless breeze. The rogue plummeted out of the air like a heavy sack of bricks, falling right down into the waiting arms of the local authorities.
A heavily armored KPD officer, who had just arrived on the scene with his weapon drawn, caught the unconscious man with a stunned grunt, looking around wildly to see who had fired the shot.
Nami lowered her hand with the residual wind gently blowing her blond hair back over her shoulders. She turned back to Koya with a proud smile stretching across her face.
She cleared her throat, striking a heroic pose with her hands on her hips.
“Koya-kun, I awakened…” Nami announced proudly.
She waited in silence, fully expecting a massive, surprised reaction. She expected him to jump up, ask her a million questions, and praise her for doing the impossible at her age.
Koya didn’t move from the bench. He just looked at her calmly.
“I already knew…” Koya stated simply.
Nami’s proud posture shattered instantly. Her triumphant smile dropped, and her expression filled with pure surprise and disappointment.
“How?” Nami asked with her shoulders slumping.
“Well, mana responds to you the exact same way it does with any normal awakened person,” Koya explained logically, gesturing vaguely to the air around her. “And besides that, when I bit you this morning, your blood was completely full of it. It tasted entirely different.”
Nami blinked, processing the glaringly obvious vampiric logic.
“O-oh,” Nami muttered, feeling incredibly silly for trying to build up the dramatic suspense.
She sat back down heavily on the wooden bench, grabbed her plastic fork, and aggressively stuffed her face full of another massive bite of chocolate cake to hide her embarrassment.
Koya watched her pout with a warm smile breaking across his face. He shifted closer, his hand reaching out to gently stroke her blond hair, providing the physical affection and validation she was seeking.
“It was an amazing shot…” Koya praised her sincerely, noting how her eyes instantly lit up at the compliment.
He let his hand trail down to rest on her shoulder.
“But tell me,” Koya asked softly, his purple eyes locking onto hers. “How exactly did you awaken?”
Nami froze. The piece of cake suddenly felt like ash in her mouth and she swallowed hard.
‘H-how?’ Nami thought.
To be perfectly honest, the only accurate way she could describe it was that she had sold her soul for this power.
