Chapter 286: Roxanna Finally Became a Mother

Two months had passed since Roxanna allowed Carla and her people to stay inside the Vixeria Settlement. During that time, they had become so comfortable living there that they barely cared about returning to their own destroyed settlement anymore.

Did Roxanna mind? Not at all. In fact, she was quite happy about it because she now had more friends and extra people helping her take care of the settlement.

Even the farms could be harvested much faster now because there were so many hands working together.

For the past two months, everything had been peaceful and smooth. But as the weather slowly shifted into the rainy season, Roxanna finally had to face the one thing she had secretly feared all this time.

Giving birth to her baby.

"Keep pushing, Leader. I know you can do it," Grandma Mia said patiently. But at that moment, Roxanna honestly wanted to kick her.

"AAARRGGHHH! IT HURTS!" Roxanna screamed loudly.

Ever since coming to this world, she had developed a much higher pain tolerance than before. But even then, the pain of childbirth was still far beyond anything she could handle calmly.

"You’re doing great, Leader," Grandma Mia encouraged her again. "I can already see the baby’s head."

"Wife, you’re doing—"

Azul couldn’t finish his sentence because Roxanna suddenly grabbed a handful of his hair and pulled it so hard that he nearly yelped.

"D-Don’t say anything!" Roxanna snapped. Right now, hearing his voice only made her more irritated.

After all, she was currently suffering while delivering his baby.

Of course, it wasn’t entirely Azul’s fault. Roxanna had enjoyed their intimate moments together too. But when people were in terrible pain, they naturally wanted someone to blame.

Azul immediately shut his mouth and pressed his lips together tightly. He didn’t even complain even though Roxanna was pulling his hair so hard that several strands had already fallen out.

Outside the hut, Calen nervously peeked through the window along with Roxanna’s other husbands.

"Is she really going to be okay?" he whispered anxiously.

"She’ll be fine," Zeir answered calmly. "Our wife is strong. She’ll definitely be alright."

Even though Zeir looked calm and rarely showed his true emotions, anyone could see that his hands were trembling slightly at his sides.

"Oh, her baby’s head is so fat. No wonder she’s in so much pain."

All of Roxanna’s husbands immediately turned toward the voice and found Carla peeking inside the hut as well.

Carla frowned when she noticed everyone staring at her. "What?"

Calen instantly looked offended. "What do you mean fat?! Our child is just big! And big is good!"

Carla frowned even deeper. In her tribe, a fat baby was considered a sign of prosperity and good health. She honestly couldn’t understand why this dog beastman looked personally attacked by her words.

But before anyone could continue arguing, Roxanna suddenly screamed from inside the hut.

"SHUT UP! Don’t just stand there!"

[I’m already in so much pain, and they still dare to fight in front of me?!]

The moment they heard her shout, all of her husbands scattered away like frightened chickens. Even Carla quickly backed away.

"I’ve never seen her this angry before," Calen muttered, his ears drooping nervously.

Cyrus let out a tired sigh. "Who wouldn’t become irritable while suffering that much pain?" he said. "Let’s just hope everything goes well and stop making noise."

Calen immediately obeyed because the last thing he wanted was for Roxanna to get angry at him too.

Meanwhile, inside the hut, Roxanna felt like the lower half of her body was being ripped apart. She had already been in labor for almost an hour, but the baby still hadn’t come out yet.

Part of her felt frustrated because she couldn’t give birth faster, but another part of her was terrified that something might be wrong with the baby.

"G-Grandma Mia... i-is my baby okay?" Roxanna finally asked weakly. Her face had turned pale, and sweat completely soaked her forehead.

Grandma Mia quickly reassured her, "Nothing is wrong, Leader. Your baby’s head is just a little too big."

Beside her, Lila gently wiped the sweat covering Roxanna’s forehead with a soft cloth.

"Just focus on pushing," Lila said softly. "Grandma Mia has helped many beastwomen give birth for years, so you can trust her, Leader."

After hearing their comforting words, Roxanna forced herself to calm down and started pushing again.

It was exhausting. Every second felt painful, and her entire body already felt weak from the long labor. But even so, she still kept trying with all her strength.

Then, after what felt like forever, Roxanna finally heard the sound she had been desperately waiting for all this time.

A loud baby’s cry suddenly filled the entire hut.

For a few seconds, Roxanna could only stare blankly at the ceiling while trying to catch her breath. Her whole body felt heavy and exhausted, but the moment she heard that cry, all the fear inside her chest slowly disappeared.

"It’s a girl, Leader!" Grandma Mia announced cheerfully.

Roxanna’s eyes instantly filled with tears. The fear and anxiety that had been crushing her chest for so long finally began to slowly fade away.

"My baby..." she whispered weakly.

Grandma Mia carefully picked up the newborn before suddenly pausing in surprise.

"Oh my..."

Roxanna’s heart immediately tightened. "What is it?" she asked nervously. "Is my baby okay?!"

Grandma Mia quickly nodded to reassure her. "The baby is healthy, Leader. Very healthy." She hesitated for a second before adding, "It’s just... she has scales."

When Grandma Mia carefully brought the baby closer, Roxanna finally got a proper look at her daughter, and honestly... her baby looked nothing like what Roxanna had imagined or maybe she should have expected this from the start.

The baby only had a few soft strands of pink hair on her head, and when she slowly opened her eyes, Roxanna instantly froze after seeing the bright blue eyes that looked almost exactly like Azul’s.

Tiny pink scales covered parts of the baby’s arms and cheeks, shining softly under the light. On the sides of her head were small fin-like ears that Roxanna had only ever seen before in mermaid movies.

Oh, wait... her daughter even had a mermaid tail!
