Chapter 74 Returning Home
Chapter 74 Returning Home
When Karl returned to Mero, his usual humble and gentle demeanor had completely disappeared.
Arriving at the gates of the Super God Academy, Karl walked straight through the academy's corridor and pushed open the door to the principal's office.
As soon as you enter, you see Kieran standing by the window, his white hair and beard, along with his slightly pale face, appearing particularly gloomy in the afternoon light.
"Headmaster, why can't I find the big clock?" Carl stood at the office door, feeling cheated.
Kieran turned around, his gaze calm. "The Great Clock has been taken by Zhao Chen."
"What?"
I warned you long ago. Don't mess with Zhao Chen, don't mess with Zhao Chen, but you wouldn't listen. Now look what's happened, the academy's great clock is gone. Kieran's tone was full of resentment.
Principal, how can you be sure it's Zhao Chenqian?
"There is a trace of my spirit in the Great Clock, and I hid it underground in the Deno Galaxy Super God Academy."
I can sense it anytime someone triggers the alarm I set.
At that moment, I felt that the alarm I had set had been triggered, so I immediately used the imprint within the large clock to borrow its energy and create a temporary clone.
As he spoke, Kieran's face grew increasingly grim. "I watched with my own eyes as he erased my spiritual imprint and took the Great Clock."
Karl was silent for a moment. "You don't plan to take it back?"
Hmph, let's not even talk about the fact that I'm probably no match for him anymore. The key issue now is, I don't know where he went?
He didn't come back? That shouldn't be the case. Karl was puzzled.
I heard that I had come back. But I was still recovering from my injury at the time, and I only came out of quarantine yesterday.
Sigh, it's my fault too. I thought, well, he's right here. He can't run away, so there's no rush.
Unexpectedly, Kieran looked regretful.
At this moment, Carl's resentment towards Zhao Chen had already reached a breaking point. He usually considered himself Kieran's best student and only successor. He had long regarded the Great Clock as his own, but he never expected that it would end up being taken by Zhao Chen.
Sigh, let's go. Let's see if Keisha knows Zhao Chen's whereabouts.
Kieran led the way out of the principal's office, while Carl followed silently behind.
The two walked one after the other through the Super God Academy and headed towards the main hall of the Merlo Heavenly Court.
Meanwhile, in the main hall of the Heavenly Court of Merlo, Keisha sat regally on her throne, her silver wings folded. He Xi stood to Keisha's left as usual, while Liang Bing stood to her right.
Kieran entered the hall, making a commanding first impression.
"Queen Keisha, are you aware that Zhao Chen stole the Great Clock?" Kieran's voice wasn't loud, but it filled every corner of the hall.
Keisha abruptly stopped tapping on the armrest.
I didn't know about this.
"He went to the Super God Academy in the Deno system and stole the Great Clock from the academy's underground," Kieran explained. "Now I just want to know where he is right now?"
Keisha countered, "You're asking me? How would I know?"
"I heard that he came to the palace. You really didn't know?"
"He only said he was leaving, but he didn't tell me where he was going," Keisha said petulantly.
Kieran stared intently into Keisha's eyes, trying to glean something from them. Unfortunately, he found nothing. Throughout the entire encounter, Keisha's gaze remained unwavering, devoid of any extraneous emotion.
Unfortunately, Kieran had no choice but to give up.
Queen Keisha, I apologize for disturbing you this time.
After speaking, Kieran bowed slightly and turned to leave. Karl followed closely behind, glancing back at Liang Bing as he exited the hall before quickly catching up.
Liang Bing stood to the right of the throne, looking in the direction where Kieran and Karl had disappeared, then turned to look at Keisha, her pretty face full of curiosity. "Sis, did brother-in-law really get the Great Clock of the Super God Academy?"
Keisha did not answer Liang Bing's question and remained silent.
Liang Bing wisely refrained from asking any further questions.
Zhao Chen had been flying in the void for more than a month. When he got tired, he would just find a planet to land on and slowly recover his true essence. After this short rest, he would continue on his way.
Zhao Chen spent nearly a year on this trip.
Although using the Golden Crow Escape Light is almost twice as fast as using the Divine Transformation stage when one is at the early stage of the Void Refinement realm, the distance from Merlo Star to the northern border star region is measured in light-years.
After an unknown amount of time, the outline of the border star field finally appeared in Zhao Chen's vision. And in this star field, there was a very inconspicuous planet.
That's the direction of Gela Star, where the Demon Cave is located.
Zhao Chen hovered outside the atmosphere of Gela Star, his divine sense probing downwards. Then he suddenly froze.
Zhao Chen clearly remembered that when he left, the Demon Cave was just a simple campsite, with countless tents and simple wooden huts scattered at the foot of the mountain.
At night, the furnace fire in the forge is the brightest light source here, and the mine's transport vehicles creak and groan on the muddy roads.
Four hundred thousand people live on this barren land, relying entirely on Zhao Chen's protection to survive.
But what he saw before him now was a city.
The mountaintop to the north has been completely leveled and replaced with a fortress built of massive stones. Surrounding the fortress are neat streets and stone houses that extend outwards along the mountainside.
In the very center of the city is a huge square, and in the middle of the square stands a stone pillar, with a flame burning at the top of the pillar.
I don't know who designed it.
Zhao Chen's divine sense swept across the entire city, discovering that it had a population of nearly one million. The city was surrounded by high stone walls, with a watchtower every hundred feet on top of the walls, and energy cannons mounted on the top of the towers were slowly rotating.
There were countless new faces in the city he didn't recognize—orcs, half-orcs, dwarves, elves, and even some human merchants.
The scent of Gronn is deep within the fortress, while the scent of the dwarven anvil is still present in the forge district, where they should be working. The forge has expanded from one to dozens of workshops.
From a distance, the furnaces in the forging area stretched out as one, turning half of the sky above the city a dark red.
Zhao Chen put away the Golden Crow Escape Light and landed at the city gate.
The two guards at the gate were young orcs, clad in dark bronze armor and wielding meteorite iron spears, on duty. They paused for a moment when they saw Zhao Chen, then one of them suddenly widened his eyes.
"The King is back! The King is back!"
His voice suddenly boomed at the city gate, like a stone thrown into calm water, instantly turning the city gate into a lively scene.
Zhao Chen quickly left and walked down the central street of the city.
The stone houses stretched from the foot of the mountain all the way to the mountainside, with shops lining both sides of the street. There were blacksmith shops, grain stores, cloth shops, taverns, and even an exchange for dark energy crystals. Orcs, half-orcs, and dwarves strolled freely through the street; some pushed carts, some carried goods, and some sat by the roadside chatting.
Children chased and played in the alley, their laughter filling the air with joy.
Just then, an old dwarf woman suddenly poked her head out of the house. When she saw Zhao Chen, she paused for a moment, then quickly bowed to him. Just then, a burly orc carrying a huge meteorite ore walked by from the opposite side. When he saw Zhao Chen, he quickly put the ore down and knelt on one knee.
More and more people stopped, looked at him, and then knelt down. Zhao Chen frowned and waved his hand. "Get up, all of you."
No one got up.
Goron then ran out of the fortress. He was over two meters tall, with bulging muscles all over his body, and an iron axe was tucked behind his waist. He looked every bit the fierce and menacing demon.
He ran up to Zhao Chen and stood still.
"Your Majesty, you've finally returned."
"Get up," Zhao Chen said.
Goron chuckled and straightened up. "Your Majesty, you've been gone for too long."
"How long?"
"It's been almost three hundred years."
Zhao Chen was silent for a moment. He had actually been gone for so long, long enough that the demon's lair had developed into a city.
They walked through the city streets. Goron, following behind, gave him a general overview: North Mountain Fortress was the council chamber and residence; the central square was called Demon King Square, and the flame there was lit by the Pure Yang True Fire left by Zhao Chen in the forge, which had burned for over a hundred years without going out. Outside the city were six mines: iron, dark copper, and meteorite iron, as well as a Void Crystal Core Refinery. The dwarves in the forge district had grown to over two thousand, producing hundreds of sets of armor and weapons daily. The army had expanded to one hundred thousand, all equipped with dark copper armor and meteorite iron weapons. The Demon Cave's territory had expanded from Gra Star to seven surrounding planets, with a population of nearly two million.
Zhao Chen remained silent.
When Zhao Chen arrived at the fortress gate, the anvil was already waiting there.
The old dwarf's beard was whiter than before, but he was still very energetic.
"Your Majesty," Iron Anvil bowed, looking at Zhao Chen, "you've been gone for so many years, why haven't you even sent a message?"
"It's been passed on. Didn't Goron tell you?"
"I've been seeing you holed up in the forge all day, too busy," Goron explained.
The anvil snorted and glared at Goron.
Zhao Chen pushed open the castle gate and went inside.
