Chapter 2039, Section 2.37: The Mayan Pyramids

Amazon rainforest, Mayan pyramids.

Twelve motorboats, under the dual cover of optical camouflage and acoustic shielding, silently approached the shore.

Previously, Team 4 had already scanned the Mayan pyramid and discovered that it contained five functional buildings from bottom to top: a survivor camp, a mechanical weapons factory, a medicine laboratory, a cryogenic blood bank, and a breast-jiggling nightclub. This is clearly a consequence of the Fulong Temple's same-sex battle royale storyline.

As for why this Mayan pyramid, originally standing on the US-Mexico border and buried underground, has appeared in the Amazon rainforest further south in America, it's clearly the result of player intervention. The method is actually quite simple: the nesting rules of exclusive land cards. Just like how Wu Chen's repeatedly upgraded Star Cube base can release multiple 5-star exclusive lands, each 5-star exclusive land inserted into the seven-tiered pagoda of Fulong Temple can nest multiple 4-star exclusive lands.

In fact, just like Wu Chen, who earned a total of 234975 coins by completing the adventures of the five scenarios in "Limited Project: Lone Wanderer in the Apocalypse," the 6-star "Arena of Death" card he brought back could also be used for player competition in a similar "card insertion" method as the Fulong Temple Pagoda. Of course, as one of the 480 temples of the Southern Dynasty, Fulong Temple is limited by the upper limit of the "Broken Law" carried by the flat base itself, so the inserted exclusive land cannot exceed 5 stars. And the Starry Sky Type II Cube, which matches the sixth-tier base, is a necessary prerequisite for accommodating multiple 6-star exclusive lands. Wu Chen has already obtained it in advance.

Therefore, it's important to note that only one level of the Seven-Tiered Fulong Temple Pagoda can be active at a time. The second level's competitive aspect can only be unlocked after the first level's storyline is completed. Ultimately, this is due to the limitation that the floating platform base itself cannot activate multiple 5-star exclusive sites simultaneously.

This is a linear setup similar to the five scenes in the "Limited Project: Lone Wolf in the Apocalypse" edited by Fat Otaku.

That makes sense when you think about it.

Abandoning ship and going ashore, the scimitar with its optical camouflage activated subconsciously glanced back at the water. When it saw that the motorboat it had just been riding on seemed to have never existed, it couldn't help but blink: "Your motorboats are like 'mechanical chameleons'."

“It’s a very simple environmental simulation,” Captain Nine-Tails answered as casually as possible. “It’s like the ‘mirror magic trick’ that magicians do all the time.”

"It's easier said than done." Scimitar, after all, was a former federal agent and had witnessed all sorts of high-tech equipment in past storylines. But the Wavebreaker team's near-perfect "dynamic camouflage," blending seamlessly with the environment, completely exceeded his expectations. This was because the motorboat was traveling at high speed. In other words, the optical camouflage even required a preview of the environment it would be blending into to achieve a flawless, lag-free effect. Otherwise, visual stuttering, frame drops, and ghosting would occur.

It's obvious that current human digital technology is simply incapable of achieving this. But for the Cybertronian superbrain, it's utterly insignificant.

Small capabilities solve big problems. Simplicity and ease are the essence of high technology.

“Let’s split up.” Captain Nine-Tailed Fox used dialogue to advance the plot: “Find the injured giant snake as soon as possible and stop them from mating.”

"Hmm." Scimitar nodded first, then changed the subject: "But I want to act alone."

"Too dangerous." Captain Nine-Tails immediately stopped him: "You and your other evil self have a strong telepathic connection. Although you are protected by armor, you are too close. It won't be long before he knows you're here."

"So, this is your chance." The scimitar was indeed tactically astute: "Before we decide the victor, you must take care of that giant snake."

“You want to use yourself as bait.” Captain Nine-Tails had already understood. “That’s your understanding, Captain.” That was Curved Blade’s answer.

"Alright then." Captain Nine-Tails knew that once he made a decision, he wouldn't easily change it. "See you later."

"See you later." Ending the helmet-encrypted communication, Scimitar departed first. The optical camouflage left no trace, yet it was faithfully calculated by the "Superbrain Region Chain" jointly formed by the Cybertronian superbrains of Team 4. That's right. The image was calculated, not captured on film.

Watching the scimitar infiltrate the survivor camp via the holographic screen inside their helmets, Team Breaker 4 immediately pounced on the hiding place of the wounded golden python. Even without the advanced Cybertronian equipment onboard the Vortex armor, the strong smell of blood in the air made it easy to track the golden python. Silently circling around to the side of the pyramid, they saw a trail of blood, not yet completely congealed, extending all the way to the medicine laboratory on the third level of the Mayan pyramid.

"This giant snake actually knew to bandage itself after being injured," Hu Xueji said softly, gazing up at the gruesome bloodstain.

"Cut Knife said he heard a mysterious voice controlling the serpent from behind its mouth," Captain Nine-Tailed replied. "Perhaps the serpent was also guided into the drug lab."

"Captain, do you know something?" Chen Changzhi asked.

"Hmm." Captain Nine-Tails had no idea what it was. "Let's go take a look."

"Yes." The team immediately took action.

As is well known, the Mayan pyramids are the most representative religious structures of the Mayan civilization, second only to the Egyptian pyramids. They are mainly located in southeastern Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and other parts of South America, and construction began around 1800 BC. Built of limestone and sandstone, their stepped structure distinguishes them from the Egyptian pyramids. A temple was built at the top, serving both astronomical observation and political symbolism functions.

This underground Mayan pyramid, buried on the US-Mexico border in the original storyline, has a real-world counterpart—the Great Pyramid of Cholula.

The Great Pyramid of Cholula is said to have been built starting around 300 BC and used to worship Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent god of Aztec mythology. The pyramid has six levels, a base measuring 450 meters long and wide, a height of approximately 66 meters, and a total volume of about 445 million cubic meters. Its underground tunnel network extends for over 8 kilometers. Built by multiple generations of Maya people, it became an important religious center after its completion in the 1st century AD. Located in the Cholula Valley, more than 100 kilometers southeast of Mexico City, it is adjacent to the Popocatepet volcano to the east, which was later buried in volcanic ash.

In October 1519, Hernán Cortés, the Spanish military leader and explorer famous for conquering the Aztec Empire, arrived in the Cholula Valley and massacred approximately 3000 local inhabitants within an hour, wiping out 10% of the city's population instantly. In 1594, these colonists, who had dominated the area, used the original temple building materials to construct the Church of Our Lady of the Salvation (La Iglesia de Nuestra Seora de Los Remedios) atop the Cholula Pyramid, completely unaware that they were standing on what is now the largest pyramid in existence, exceeding 30% in volume of the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Look, the colonists slaughtered the indigenous people and used their flesh and blood to build a temple from another world on top of their shrines. This was not only a physical massacre, but also the extinction of their faith (civilization).

Knowing this important background is obviously crucial to understanding the metaphors behind the bloody plot of From Dusk Till Dawn (Good heavens, are we really watching the same movie?).

The motorcycle gangs and truck drivers crossing the border are the intruders (colonizers). The temple-turned-breast-jiggling bar represents "altered faith." And Santanico Pandemoni, the ancient vampire queen draped in a golden serpent and delivering a performance that is considered "the most spectacular erotic dance in film history," is clearly the real-life Quetzalcoatl. The film's climax, a bloody spectacle, is Quetzalcoatl leading the indigenous people in a reverse massacre of the colonizers.

Both are vampire-themed films, 2025's "Sinners" and 1996's "From Dusk Till Dawn" share a similar theme (tsk tsk, the adult's taste is indeed A-grade).
